Sweet Law Attorneys Joe Pickard and Lauren Metzger recently obtained a defense verdict in a medical malpractice case on behalf of two emergency room physicians. The case involved allegations of a missed diagnosis of appendicitis. Plaintiff claimed the two ER doctors failed to diagnose a 13-year-old patient of appendicitis, resulting in a ruptured appendix and subsequent pelvic abscess, which led to an extensive hospitalization and multiple surgeries. Defendants denied all allegations of liability and damages and, after a 4-day trial before Judge Jefferson Sellers in the District Court of Tulsa County, the jury returned an 11-1 verdict in favor of the defendants.
